On December 4th, the iMaint and PMC User Advisory Board hosted our customers in a conversation titled “A Discussion on The Importance of Standardizing Data and Best Maintenance Practices.” These product-specific webinars give our customers a way to network and ask questions about how others use iMaint and PMC to handle everyday business activities. These webinars were well received, and DPSI would like to give a huge thanks to our UAB presenters.

iMaint

Maint presenter Marina Garza with John Soules Foods spoke about the importance of giving inventory items detailed descriptions to maximize search ability and accuracy. Emily Teekasingh with Tesla shared her ability to maintain data integrity with reporting tools. In addition, Leland Parker with The Nature’s Bounty led a conversation about the importance of formalizing and adhering to your data standardizations.

iMaint Webinar Comments

“My first DPSI webinar, with very good information. Looking forward to seeing the Customer Corner reviews. Thanks.”

“Thank you for today … I sat in The iMaint User Advisory Board Presents: A Discussion on The Importance of Standardizing Data and Best Maintenance Practices … This was a great learning experience and wondered if you have any other Training/Discussion forums that I and other employees could attend online?”

“Very informative. So glad I joined. Thank you.”

“I think it was done well. Only thing is with everyone that has to present, could you make it an hour and fifteen minutes or just an hour and a half, just so it doesn’t seem rushed? But overall, good job. Send me all invites to upcoming webinars.”

PMC

PMC presenter Jim Lay with Grant Town Power introduced the importance of data standardization and suggested each company should develop formal operating procedures that all employees are accountable to follow. Jeff Sisson of Aurora Organic Dairy reiterated using strong IDs and the need for detailed descriptions to make the most of PMCs search and filter capabilities. Bob Brieck, our honorary UAB member and Professional Services Consultant, rounded out the discussion with tips on data clean up. He stressed that good data is an ongoing process and takes vigilance and patience to maintain data integrity.

PMC Webinar Comments

“Interesting. Worth attending. It was still going when I had to leave. Maybe there is a need for a follow-up session. Thanks.”

“A lot of talk about data scrubbing. Great topic and we should possibly set up another meeting based on this topic and link in proper data structure.”

“I thought the meeting actually started rather slowly and the content was more for beginner users which was OK, but near the end of the meeting, when more questions were being asked, I gained valuable information. Thank you for presenting and sharing the information.”

Each webinar ended with the opportunity for customers to ask questions and share their experiences with data standardizations. DPSI would like to thank everyone who participated. DPSI strives to present quarterly informative webinar sessions for all our customers. If you are interested in joining our next session, keep your eyes open for emails from news@dpsi.com for upcoming webinar events!

Cloud Technology. We have all heard or read that term somewhere over the past few years and underneath there are many flavors, depending on the vendor you talk to. At its root definition, the term refers to the ability to access an application and its data over the Internet, whether it’s at your local facility or a third party hosted site. iMaint 4 brought a first step for DPSI into the cloud world. You could access our cloud client via the server, but it still had a download and desktop client as if you had installed the full application on your computer. After much review and reflection, the time has come for iMaint to fully engage cloud computing.

We are going with a complete redesign of our user interface in iMaint 5.0, not only to streamline processes and make it more intuitive, but to become 100% browser based and eliminate any client installation.

So what does that really mean? It means that we have listened to all the feedback received from customers and are going to target the major items requested. We understand that the user experience in iMaint needs to be able to reflect unique work functions. The largest shift in the thought process is that we will be implementing datasheet first design for forms. If you open the asset form, you will see a datasheet first and you can then open a record in the form. The new design will also focus on streamlining each area to make the user flow better by reducing or eliminating tabs and duplicate information in multiple grids. Putting more control of what you see in your hands.

A modern product also needs to have a seamless and intuitive experience across all devices. iMaint 5.0 will be designed to run cross platform and cross device. A work order form within Google Chrome will function the same on an iPad or Android Tablet through responsive design. If you are in the field and only have your smartphone, no worries – you will be able to access the entire application to look up information or assign someone a task.

For those wishing to integrate third-party applications to transfer purchasing or inventory data, or conduct data analysis in a reporting product, we will be Application Program Interface (API) driven. This will allow third-party applications to talk directly to our server, making communication between third-party products seamless.

At this point, I feel like I should throw in a sales phrase like “But wait – there’s more!” That desire comes from the energy within the walls of DPSI right now. We are all excited to make this leap forward and have seen a long list of small user interface changes that will make iMaint an even greater product to use. I truly feel that iMaint 5.0 takes iMaint to the latest technology and will benefit both end users and enterprises as a whole. This will be the next iMaint release after 4.3, which will be released in Q1 2019. As part of DPSI’s commitment to a speedy release of 5.0, we are bringing on additional resources to help with this project. As 2018 comes to the close, know that we are working diligently on the design, architecture and project management side of the release and look forward to sharing more in the new year.

Enjoy the holidays and cheers to 2019!

Having trouble getting a large document or picture into iMaint as an attachment? You may have encountered an error when uploading larger size attachments into iMaint. Try checking with your iMaint System Administrator. A setting in the iMaint System Administrator tool allows your IT Department or System Administrator to define a maximum limit on the size of files you may upload into the drop directory for use within iMaint. There may be a need to increase your Upload Max. Open the iMaint System Administrator Tool, navigate to the Configuration tab and scroll to the bottom. Increase the Upload Max field value to handle the larger files you wish to use as an attachment in iMaint, but remember to speak to your IT Department or System Administrator first to obtain permission for larger file use.

With the release of PMC 8.0 this month, here are some reminders before performing an upgrade. PMC 8.0 is designed to work with Microsoft Access 2016. However, if you do not have Office 2016, PMC will install Access Runtime and PMC 8.0 will require that all current versions of PMC be uninstalled first. The basic steps to take in upgrading to PMC 8.0 will be as follows:

  1. Make a good backup of your database.
  2. Uninstall all prior versions of PMC on workstations and the server.
  3. Install PMC 8.0 on all workstations and the server.
  4. Register your database with DPSI Support. Contact them at (877) 777-0431 for your license key.
  5. Do not forget to run the Migration Wizard to update your data and database to the new version.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
