DPSI Endorses Manufacturing Day

The manufacturing industry makes up a critically important piece of the United States economy. Yet, there is an alarmingly high skills gap present within this industry today. Although manufacturers are hiring, there is a shortage of workers with the appropriate types of skills and training needed. The shortage is estimated to be 2 million out 3.5 million manufacturing jobs, actually. Cue Manufacturing Day — a day that aims to inspire and recruit the next generation of manufacturers.

Manufacturing Day (MFG DAY) is produced annually by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). Its primary goals are to address common misconceptions about the manufacturing industry and showcase its true value. In doing so, manufacturers that participate “will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry,” according to the MFG DAY website.

Organizations can participate in MFG DAY by hosting events, becoming an endorser or joining as a sponsor. It takes place this year on Friday, October 5, 2018. Since its inception, the number of registered MFG DAY events has steadily grown from roughly 240 in 2012 to close to 3,000 in 2017. In North Carolina, home of DPSI headquarters, there are approximately 60 events planned alone. These include manufacturing facility tours, virtual learning events, open houses and more, many of which are open to the public. Numerous community colleges will be showcasing specialized degrees and programs tailored for manufacturing industrial sectors. Students are encouraged to attend and learn more about careers in manufacturingan industry whose average U.S. worker earned over $84,000 annually.

DPSI is a proud supporter and official endorser of Manufacturing Day 2018. We know how important manufacturing is for our economy and, quite blunty, when manufacturers succeedwe succeed. Our computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) was specifically designed for industries including manufacturing. As an industry that places emphasis on reliable operation of large, expensive equipment, it’s no surprise that manufacturing plants prioritize maintenance management. A CMMS is key to preventing unplanned equipment failures and production delays.
